On 8th October, South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) launched the Tourism Product Development Plan for the Scenic Savannah River Region. The plan, prepared by Tourism Development International, sets out proposals for an equestrian complex, heritage, and outdoor recreations as the optimum approach for the region achieving its tourism potential.

On the previous day, 7th October, SCPRT launched the Tourism Product Development Plan for the Central Core Region. The Central Core Plan features proposals aimed at establishing Columbia as a major leisure and business tourism destination.
